A little over ten years ago, Grandvalira was formed by joining together the areas of Soldeu, Pas de la Casa, El Tarter, Canillo and Encamp. Today, these areas are linked by modern lifts create a huge ski area boasting 210km of pistes of all colours and types. Most, but not all of our groups are accommodated in the Pas de la Casa section of the valley. From here it is easy to ski across the whole valley from lift to piste. Beginners will benefit from an award winning, English speaking ski school and some excellent long, open blue runs. Immediately from Pas de la Casa, fast lifts open the mountain up in front of you, bringing you to the Grau Roig area with open bowls and magnificent views. Further along the valley is Soldeu and El Tarter, large ski areas in their own right. Beyond that is Canillo, with further runs of all colours and often largely deserted. Soldeu’s Espiolets nursery area is vast, as are many of the children friendly areas of the mountain. There is plenty to amuse the intermediates in your group, with runs in Espiolets excellent, long, confidence-boosters. There are some decent black runs too which offer challenges especially in the Pas de la Casa-Grau Roig area. The vastness and variety of the slopes combined with a modern lift system make this an excellent place to clock-up the mileage even for beginners.
Grandvalira proclaims to be the ‘Domain of the snow’ – we cannot argue. Year on year, metres of snow fall across Andorra, and Grandvalira has a long, snow-assured season. Slopes are often covered in snow by November, and remain covered in snow well into and sometimes beyond April. High altitude and a micro-climate from the French side help to ensure snow is plentiful, and always more than our groups are expecting to see on arrival.
Many groups will be accommodated in the town of Pas de la Casa where there is plenty to keep your group occupied including a large shopping centre. The town centre is small and safe. In addition, the whole of Andorra is accessible in a short drive as it is such a small country. This ensures if it is available in Andorra, it is available to your group. The capital, Andorra la Vella offers swimming, bowling, spas and more, whilst other areas feature Pizza party nights, ice skating, sledging and more.
