School Ski Trips to the USA: Cannon and Loon

If you’re looking to take your students on a school trip to the USA, skiing should definitely be something you should consider doing with them - skiing in America is a very different experience to skiing in Europe. A mixture of tree-lined routes, soft powder snow, top tier service and high quality accommodation, make school ski trips to the USA a unique and invigorating experience for both you and your students.

Here at Ski Adaptable, we offer all inclusive ski packages for schools and colleges to the USA. We have a variety of ski resorts across the East Coast in New England that give you the option to choose the exact right destination for you, tailored to your group’s needs.

We’ve pulled together a couple of examples of our USA ski destinations to give you some more information on two fantastic locations: Cannon and Loon.

School Ski Trip to Cannon

Living up to its nickname of the ‘Legend’, Cannon boasts the longest vertical in New Hampshire and is home to some of the most famous runs in the East. Even though Cannon has a reputation for hosting some phenomenal slopes, it also has fantastic beginner slopes perfect for those students who have never skied before. This, coupled with beautiful accommodation and unrivalled après ski, makes Cannon the perfect option for your ski school trip.

Skiing in Cannon

Cannon has two areas: Cannon Mountain and Mittersill. Mittersill has advanced glade skiing that is very unique selling point for the area, but your group will most probably spend your time on Canon Mountain as it has a wider variety of runs at different levels. Tuckerbrook is brilliant for beginners for large areas full of gentle slopes, allowing beginners to explore and learn in their own time, without the pressure of more advanced skiers going past. Canon Mountain proper has 70% of its slopes dedicated to beginners and intermediates, ensuring that your students will find their feet somewhere and test themselves also should they so fancy. There are black diamond runs higher up Cannon Mountain which are great challenge for more advanced skiers.

Après Ski in Cannon

Our accommodation is in nearby Lincoln and Waterville, which have pools and space for group activities such as discos, karaoke and quiz nights. Lincoln has a lovely selection of shops and cafes and every year builds its own ‘Frozen’-style ice castle! Similarly, Waterville Valley is a great location for your school group to explore - with a traffic free square surrounded by shops an ice rink and more, it’s also easily accessible to get to retail centres, bowling, a cinema, quiz nights, ice hockey matches etc.!

Loon has recently been voted in the top US ski resorts and is New Hampshire largest resort. This means it has a brilliant range of facilities, slopes and après ski activities, all very near our accommodation options.

Skiing in Loon

The resort of Loon covers North Peak, Loon Peak and South Peak. Whilst North Peak and Loon Peak are the main ski areas for schools, there are chairlifts from these peaks to South Peak, where there are some beautiful intermediate and advanced runs for your more experienced students. Loon Peak however, is ideal for beginner students with huge open green runs that will help your students to build their confidence.

Après Ski in Loon

All of the Ski Adaptable accommodation in New Hampshire offers swimming pools and lots of free space where you can host a variety of activities for your students. Loon is very close to Lincoln, a town full of buzz and energy. It also offers fantastic tax-free shopping (including a traditional sweet shop!), it also offers tubing, guided snowshoe tours and has a zipline. Also close to Waterville Valley town, means your students can explore even more shops, the ice rink as well as bowling, cinema, dinner out and sleigh rides!
