School Ski Trip Destination Highlight: Switzerland

Our selection of school ski trip destinations is pretty vast and offer a great range of beautiful resorts around the world for students to enjoy hitting the slopes.

We know that a school ski trip is often a once in a lifetime opportunity for some students so ensuring that they’re given the best experience possible is important. We help you to do this by organising bespoke packages tailored to your group - taking out stresses of off-piste and night time activities too.

One of our most popular skiing destinations is Switzerland - and it’s really no surprise as to why! Swiss skiing is globally renowned and their resorts are esteemed in history. With a huge variety of slopes, landscapes and towns, Switzerland boasts a nearly unrivalled skiing experience for schools. This is exactly why this month we want to highlight Switzerland as being a fantastic school ski trip destination and share with you the reasons why!

An Overview of Switzerland

As well as its superb skiing and mountains, Switzerland has a lot of other credentials to its name too! In 2015 Switzerland was ranked the world’s happiest country and came second in 2016 out of 156 countries - those are some pretty happy people! On the same note… The Swiss eat more chocolate than any other nation in the world (we’re sure this contributes to their dizzy heights of happiness!) and consume around 11kg per year. They also offer 450 varieties of cheese which your students absolutely must try some of!

Other interesting insights into the Swiss culture include Einstein developing his theory of relativity in Switzerland, it’s home to 208 mountains that are all over 3,000 metres high and they also invented the wrist watch!

Chateau d'Oex Gstaad

Let’s talk resorts!

One of the Swiss resorts that we offer here at Ski Adaptable is Chateau d’Oex Gstaad. It’s a quintessential Swiss alpine resort with 220km of world class skiing, suitable for a mixture of abilities. The ski lift is in the centre of village making it easy to access, this then takes you up the beautiful slopes where there are large and peaceful runs perfect for beginners as well as a selection of more advanced red and black runs.

One unique selling point of Chateau d’Oex Gstaad is their snow-train which gives your students the chance to ski across different resorts too, including: Saanen, Schonried and Zweisimmen. This is the largest ski pass in the whole of Switzerland and the slops accessible are suitable for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers. Another great perk of Chateau d’Oex Gstaad is that the slopes are famously quiet, the lift system is modern and the views from the top of the mountain are pretty breath-taking. If you’re looking for an interesting and diverse skiing experience for your students, that’s also safe and easy, this will be the resort for you!

It’s not just the slopes that are a big pull to Chateau d’Oex Gstaad, but due to its own micro-climate, it has become a fantastic environment for hot hair balloons and an annual balloon festival happens at the start of every January, attracting thousands of visitors to the village. It also offers brilliant restaurants, brasseries and a pizza house, there’s a large outdoor skating rink and a new bowling and leisure complex in the village as well as a great cheese making demonstration to watch.

We’ve built a fantastic relationship with the Resort Mayor who ensures that all of our students and teachers get tip top service each time!

This beautiful Swiss mountain village that sits at the foot of the Tour d’Aï, renowned as a health resort because of its sun-rich and mild climate. Leysin is of modest size with some of the most beautiful views in the world, offering a remarkable 360 degree views of the Alps.

More suited to beginner and intermediate skiers, a lot of the runs are found by accessing the main Berneuse ski station. Up the mountain you will find fantastic beginner pistes and intermediate pistes that will take you right down back to the village - you can also ski (or take a lift) to the Les Mosses slopes. These runs are shorter but great for beginners and offer freestyle parks for your more adventurous students!

Much like Chateau d’Oex Gstaad, Leysin also has its own micro-climate which means there is good snow cover throughout the skiing season; this allows students to access the snow park with a halfpipe and toboggan run whatever time in the season you take them!

Coming down from the mountains you will find that due to the five colleges and international schools in the village, it’s already set up for school students of all ages. Offering a staggering amount of activities in the village including swimming, sledge runs and an ice rink, you could keep every day busy without needing the slopes at all!

Verbier 4 Vallées-Nendaz

This resort offers 400km of slopes and 82 lifts making it the largest ski area in Switzerland and links the resorts of Verbier, La Tzoumaz, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon. With spectacular slopes, unrivalled terrain and perfect Swiss hospitality, we’re so proud to be able to offer this prized resort at incredible value for money.

Out of the 400km of 4 Vallées, we offer passes that cover 250km of these pistes and an upgrade to the full 4 Vallées pass on request. Here, you’ll be up with the clouds at 3300m high, utilising long runs that are perfect for abilities. Some are tree lined and others are high above tree-lines, giving you and your students the opportunities to explore many different terrains. Famous for its vertical drop on the Printze Pass, we offer you 5 hours skiing a day as standard for you to get to experience as much of this beautiful mountain range as possible.

Due to the height of the slopes (and glacier!), there is fantastic snowfall all season long - in fact the season is one of the longest in Europe, giving you more options for dates. Like the other resorts we offer trips to, there are a great range of off the slop activities such as swimming, bowling, ice skating and age-suitable discos too. You can also take your students to watch an ice hockey match, toboggan, go indoor climbing, attend fondue nights and go curling!
